Canadian military order planes from Boeing
US based aircraft manufacturer Boeing has said that they have signed a C$3.4 billion ($2.87 billion) contract with the Canadian military for four C-17 transport aircraft.
Public Works Minister Michael Fortier and National Defense Minister Gordon O’Connor together made this announcement. General Rick Hillier added that this acquisition would help them with military missions in the country’s Arctic region and abroad in places such as in Afghanistan.
He said: “It is going to enable us to be there, to be there with the right loads.”
Boeing had earlier won an interim notice in July saying it was likely to get the contract. The Canadian government is likely to spend at least C$17 billion to replace aging aircraft and ships. These new acquisitions are part of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s pledge to bolster the military.
