GM offering better value to their customers by offering expanded warranty

US based automaker General Motors have said that they will add a warranty of as long as 5 years or 100,000 miles on parts including engines for many of its 2002- to 2007-model used vehicles in the U.S.

This would be done to add more value to their vehicles as the company aims to maintain its leadership position in their home market where Toyota is increasingly becoming a threat.

GM said that the coverage on powertrain parts will be in addition to the current 3,000-mile, 3-month warranty that includes the entire vehicle.

They plan to start offering this expanded warranty at the end of this quarter. Market analyst Jack Nerad said on this announcement: “This does seem to help GM show that they are serious about quality, that they are confident. It’s an open question about how much this will cost GM, but I think they’ll make that back in the boost in consumer confidence.”
