Maytag recalling 2.3 million dishwashers to fix a wiring fault

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has said in a statement that Maytag is voluntarily recalling 2.3 million Maytag and Jenn-Air brand dishwashers.

The fault lies in the wiring which can cause fire. The company has received reports of 135 fires and four injuries due to problems in the devices.

Maytag said that the affected devices were sold at department and appliances stores between July 1997 and June 2001. And these were manufactured at their plants located in the United States.

The CPSC added that consumers who own these devices should disconnect them from the power sockets. The company would be providing free in-home repair or a $75 cash back reimbursement on the purchase of a new Maytag, Jenn-Air, Whirlpool or KitchenAid dishwasher.
