Post-och Inrikes Tidningar: World’s oldest newspaper now an online only edition
Sweden’s Post-och Inrikes Tidningar is considered the world’s oldest paper still in circulation. The newspaper has now dropped its paper edition and now exists only on the web.
As per sources, the newspaper was founded in 1645 by Sweden’s Queen Kristina. And it became an online only newspaper edition beginning this year.
Market analysts believe that it is the fate many other newspapers around the world would have to face in the coming years.
Internet is increasingly become the media of choice for the web users to check news and other interesting stories and they are less likely to read newspapers.
Hans Holm, who served as the chief editor of this newspaper said in a statement on this disappointing development: “We think it’s a cultural disaster. It is sad when you have worked with it for so long and it has been around for so long.”
The paper had a meager circulation of only 1,000 units and they are hoping that the web version would become more popular.
