Akamai Technologies acquiring Netli

Web content delivery company Akamai Technologies has announced that they are taking over Netli. This company specializes in accelerating content and services online.

They would be acquiring Netli in exchange for about 3.2 million shares of Akamai common stock. This comes to around USD 170 million at the prevailing share prices of the company.

This deal would however require the approval of the Netli stockholders.

Akamai believes that this deal would help them improve application acceleration offerings and would boost their goal of being the leading managed service provider for Web application acceleration.

Market analyst Gartner has said that this industry is expected to see a major boost in the coming years.

Paul Sagan, president and CEO of Akamai, said in a statement that the two companies “both emphasize leading-edge technology to help businesses deliver more effective, higher-performing online applications.”
