Mike Volpi resigns from Cisco as a senior executive
Cisco Systems has confirmed in a statement that a senior executive Mike Volpi has resigned from his position in the company.
This development is now likely to clear the way for Chief Development Officer Charles Giancarlo to head the company in the future.
Volpi said in a statement that he is leaving the company for personal reasons. He was at one stage was considered by the investors to be the man who would have someday succeeded Chairman and Chief Executive John Chambers.
Volpi has been working as the general manager of the routing and service provider technology group.
Prudential analyst Inder Singh spoke about Volpi’s position in the company: “Charlie Giancarlo will probably rise to the top… It’s hard to find anyone as well rounded.” Volpi said in his statement: “It’s a personal decision to move on to the next stage.”
He is however likely to continue to work with the company as a consultant.
