Richard Branson announces a prize for solutions to greenhouse effect
Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore has teamed up with Richard Branson. They have announced a $25 million prize for scientists who can come up with ways to tackle Greenhouse Effect to counter the global warming.
Branson has said that he would award the Virgin Earth Challenge prize money to the person/team that develops some sort of a technology capable of eradicating the carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases at the rate of one billion tons a year.
Interestingly, this initiative comes just days after the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said global warming is more than 90 percent likely to have been caused by humans. That panel also predicted that the problem would raise temperatures by 1.1 to 6.4 degrees Celsius by the end of this century. This could lead to sea levels rising by around 18 to 59 centimeters.
Branson said in a statement on this global issue: “Governments, businesses and individual members of the public need to take that warning very seriously. If I write this check for $25 million, it will be the best check I’ve ever written.”
Gore added: “We face the challenge of transforming the way in which we produce energy, the way we transport ourselves and goods, the way we build structures — everything we do. Is there some way that some of the extra CO2 can be scavenged efficiently out of the atmosphere?”

I have read with interest Richard Branson’s offer of $25 million for a solution to Global Warming. The solution is generally set out in my last book, “lethal Legacy 2″, a copy of which was sent to nearly 200 MPs and scientist around to world – including Al Gore.
I would like the email address of Sir Richard Branson and yourselves in order that I may send you a copy of my last article wherein I discuss this matter and offer a possible solution. I (Hope) am not a crank and sincerely believe the problem is being tackled from the wrong premise. I would be pleased to discuss my conclusions with you.

At last,someone is taking a logical approach to CO2 levels in our atmosphere.
No doubt inspired by the Ansari X-Prize for sub-orbital spaceflight,Sir Richard Branson is offering $25 Million for a workable solution to the problem.
So far governments have not agreed on a stategy to tackle global warming.The UK government seems to think that taking even more money from us will somehow reduce CO2 levels!
We should look at scientific approaches in as many varied forms as possible.
We should all congratulate Sir Richard for his altruism and genuine concern for the future of humanity.
