India saw sales of 104,448 cars in January

The Indian automobile market is at a new high. The market saw sales of more than 1 lakh cars for the first time ever. As expected Maruti Udyog and Hyundai were the top contributors.

The market saw sales of 104,448 cars in the month of January 2006. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said in a statement that the sales were up 24% compared to last year.

The sales have also improved 29% from December last year.

Maruti itself reported record sales of as many as 29% from December. Hyundai in comparison sold around 17,460 cars during the month.

The commercial vehicle sales were also up in January. The sales grew 38.9% year on year to touch 47,276 units in January.

The two wheeler sales was up 11.4% at 677,390 units from 608,011 units in January 2006.
