Tata and Fiat collaborating on pick-up vehicles in Argentina
Tata Motors and Fiat SpA have announced that they are now expanding their strategic cooperation outside India. These two companies would now collaborate on jointly manufacturing pick-up vehicles at Fiat Group’s plant in Cordoba, Argentina.
These new trucks would be based on the platform of the new-generation Tata pick-up truck. Though they would be sold under the Fiat brand name in the market.
The two companies estimate that the investment for the project will be around $80 million.
The new plant would have a production capability of around 20,000 units annually and Tata and Fiat aims to start production by 2008.
Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat Group said on this new development: “This agreement is a further step in the building of a large, focused partnership with Tata and will allow Fiat to enter a specific car segment with a very competitive product.”
