Air India and Indian to be merged

The Indian government has confirmed their plans to merge the two state run airline companies Air India and Indian.

This is the latest development in the active Indian aviation market which has seen massive action in the recent years.

Federal Aviation Minister Praful Patel said in a statement that the merger would keep in mind the interests of the workers of Air India and Indian.

The concerned officials claimed that the merged entity would be more competitive and would result in annual savings of Rs. 5 billion.

Both Indian and Air India have been facing massive competition from the private airline companies which have emerged in the recent times.

Patel added that the merger would be complete within 2-3 months. He added: “We wish to see a big, strong national carrier. This is our intention.”

The combined entity would have a combined fleet of 122 planes and over 34,000 employees. Market experts however have said that the government should exit this market and should leave the aviation sector to private operators.
