French retailer Carrefour close to launch Indian venture
French retailer Carrefour has said in a statement that they are currently in talks with six potential partners to enter the retailing business in India.
The company is hoping that they would be able to sign a deal soon.
Dominique Coulombel, India-based sourcing manager for Carrefour stated in a company release: “We are close to signing an agreement. We are in talks with five or six Indian groups. It is a matter of months.”
This is the first such statement from the company which details their Indian plans. The media has been speculating since a long time about their plans for the Indian retailing market.
They are not the only one to target India. Wal-Mart, Metro and Tesco are some other global retailing giants who are trying to get a presence in India.
