Lorry Lokey donates to Stanford University

The founder of Business Wire Lorry Lokey has donated $33 million to Stanford University. These funds are to be used by the institution to build a stem cell research center.

This donation was revealed by the school which added that this is the largest contribution from an individual to the Stanford medical school.

Stanford added that they now expect to complete the development of the center by 2011.

Lokey himself said: “The important thing to me is that stem cells might not only extend life, but also improve the quality of life, as so many people suffer in their later years. But I think stem cells will have applications across the entire life span.”

Lokey incidentally already has a building named for him at Stanford. He had graduated with a journalism degree in 1949 from Stanford.
