Accenture planning to have an Indian worker base of 35,000
Accenture Ltd., the world’s largest consulting firm is planning to expand its base in India to have as many as 35000 workers by August this year.
With this, the company for the first time would have more employees working in India than in the United States.
The company currently has 27,000 people — roughly 19 percent of its global workforce working in India. They have presence in Indian cities including Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai.
Accenture only has between 31,000 and 32,000 workers in the United States.
Accenture chief executive officer William Green said in a statement on their plans: “At 35,000 people at the end of our fiscal year, India will become the largest country for Accenture, passing the United States. Though we continue to hire in other locations too, the recruitment will be highest in the subcontinent, as India has become a critical part of the Accenture world and integral to our growth strategy.”
Company spokeswoman Roxanne Taylor added: “We believe India provides Accenture tremendous opportunities in two important ways: First, in serving the domestic Indian business, which is huge and growing, and second, in enabling us to tap into the great skills and knowledge of the Indian workforce to enhance Accenture’s global consulting business.”
