Toyota to setup a new manufacturing plant in Mississippi
Japanese automaker Toyota has confirmed that they are going to invest $1.3 billion to build its eighth North American assembly plant in Blue Springs, Mississippi.
Toyota’s newest plant in the North American region would manufacture their Toyota Highlander, a crossover vehicle.
The company plans to employ around 2,000 workers at this unit. They are aiming to begin production at this new plant by 2010.
Toyota said that they aim to touch production capacities of 150,000 vehicles each year at this plant.
This location is suitable for the company as it has an engine factory in Huntsville around 125 miles away. Mississippi’s governor, Haley Barbour added on this new development: “Toyota is the world’s premier auto manufacturer, and our state will be the best partner the company has.”
