General Motors wants to make a small car for India, China and Russia

General Motors is currently the world’s largest automaker. However, their domination in the market is threatened as Toyota is rapidly becoming a threat in the domestic US market.

The company is trying hard to stay competitive and has now announced their plans for a low-priced vehicle. This new car would be built and sold in emerging markets such as India, China and Russia.

They aim to develop a car which is priced between USD 7000-8000 in these markets. It would be a “lower-intermediate” model – similar to Renault’s cheap Logan mid-sized car which is due to be launched in India in the coming months.

Nick Reilly, president of GM Asia Pacific spoke on these new plans: “The demographics of the world is changing. There’s a huge number of people just getting to the point of getting off two wheels and on to four wheels.”

They however have no plans to cut costs in areas like emissions or crash test performance.
