GM wants an electric car on road by 2010

Indian automaker REVA Electric Car Company already has been selling their Reva electric car since many years now. GM has now said that they want at least one electric car from their stables to be on road by the end of the current decade.

The company has been often criticized for scrapping their experiment with EV1 car which they had showcased way back in 1998. GM was the target of criticism on this decision in the 2006 documentary “Who Killed the Electric Car?”

GM’s product chief and Vice Chairman Bob Lutz has said in a statement that they have now set themselves a target of production of an all-electric car in 2010.

They are planning to have a running prototype ready by the end of the current year. The company is also planning to take the unusual step of opening much of its development process to the media.

Lutz said: “We have set an internal target of production in 2010. Whether we can make that or not, this is still kind of an unpredictable program for us.”
