Samsung Telecommunications to start production in Gurgaon
Samsung Telecommunications India has announced their plans to start commercial production of its mobile handset manufacturing facility at IMT Manesar near Gurgaon. This information was released to the media by Managing Director of Haryana Industrial Development Corporation Rajeev Arore.
He said that the Samsung project is an outcome of a high-level delegation’s visit, led by the Chief Minister, to South Korea last year. The delegation from Samsung had a meeting with the Samsung Electronics President Ki Tae Lee, who had informed that his company was planning to set up several units outside Korea and Haryana.
This also becomes the first such large scale manufacturing unit established by a Korean multinational in Haryana. Samsung has setup their unit on leased premises at IMT Manesar within a record period of less than four months. The project has received 100 per cent foreign direct investment with the Korean company investing about Rs 43 crore in the first phase.
Samsung has further plans to invest around Rs 850 crore for manufacturing of mobile phones in India by 2010.
