Walt Disney to launch Disney Family for parents
The Walt Disney Co. has announced that they are launching a new website specially designed for moms who are coming online to look for information related to their kids.
This new project has been named Disney Family and it has been designed to be a one-stop site for parents. Parents can find information related to key topics such as education and food.
The service would also offer an expandable “ParentPedia” guide which includes a compilation of information on 1,000 topics.
Disney said that this project is expected to remain in beta testing stage for some time. They would try to gain revenues from this site through advertising and sponsored search results.
Market analyst Josh Bernoff of Cambridge, Mass.-based Forrester Research had this to say on this new initiative by Disney: “This is uncharacteristically good. To get community right, you need to have the right mix between homegrown content plus the ability to loop in people and content from outside. That takes guts because you don’t really know what users are going to say. It’s uncharacteristic for a company that wants to control things as much as Disney.”
