European Union to soon regulate international roaming fees
The European Union has said that they would begin regulating the roaming fees inside their boundaries starting this summer holidays.
This decision was announced by European Commissioner for Information Society and Media, Viviane Reding. She said that the consumer would be paying a max of Euro 0.50 per minute of call. This cost is excluding the VAT.
She said that these regulations are likely to affect wholesale and retail charges, to be in place by the end of June. However, this is not making European consumer groups happy as they had expected to charges to be around Euro 0.33.
Reding further said that the regulations will take effect as soon as they have been agreed by the member states’ telecommunications ministers and by the MEPs.
