Microsoft acquiring TellMe Networks
Software giant Microsoft has confirmed the rumors that it is indeed acquiring TellMe Networks. TellMe Networks specializes in providing nationwide directory assistance, enterprise customer service, and voice-enabled mobile search.
The company is privately held and the two have not revealed the financial aspects of the deal signed between them.
Market sources claim that the price of this deal is between $800 million and $1 billion. Microsoft expects to complete this deal by the second quarter of the current year.
Microsoft Business Division president Jeff Raikes said in a statement on this acquisition: “The acquisition of TellMe is the right thing for our customers because it allows us to extend the speech platform to provide richer services. In addition, it’s going to allow Microsoft to build on its goal of software plus services.”
Mike McCue, the cofounder and CEO of TellMe added: “TellMe currently handles about half of all directory calls in the United States. We’ve been working for eight years to bring together the vision and technology to allow anyone to say what they want and get it on any telephone in the world. This combination allows us to fulfill our vision and bring it to billions of consumers.”
