Broadcom and Qualcomm settling disputes related to patents

Wireless technology companies Broadcom Corp. and Qualcomm Inc. have announced that they have now mutually settled a patent dispute involving cell phone chips.

A court case was coming up for hearing on this particular dispute. The agreement has been disclosed to the U.S. District Judge Rudi M. Brewster and this has finally resolved a 2005 claim by Qualcomm that Broadcom was infringing on technology used to control power usage by mobile phones.

The two companies are currently involved in several such claims and counterclaims. They are also having a patent dispute scheduled for hearings next week in Washington before the U.S. International Trade Commission.

Just recently a federal jury in San Diego found that Broadcom did not infringe on two Qualcomm patents for video compression technology. In February, the two companies announced that they are settling their differences related to two separate lawsuits in which they accused each other of patent violations.
