Sunil Mittal is now Chairman and CEO of Bharti Enterprises
Bharti founder Sunil Mittal has been appointed the Chairman and CEO of the company. With this, he is practically moving away from the operational responsibilities.
Mittal is now expected to look after the governance and overall strategy for the group.
He has appointed four Group Lead Directors to look after different businesses. These appointments would be valid starting the next financial year on April 1.
Rakesh Mittal has been named the Vice Chairman of the company and he would look after the group’s agri business, communication and media devices.
Sunil Mittal said in a statement on these organizational changes: “at Bharti, our vision has always driven us to invest, build and grow businesses that make a positive difference to the lives of people and partner India’s economic development process. The new organization structure and governance model takes this forward and blends Bharti’s entrepreneurial ethos with an enhanced professional culture.”
The company is investing heavily to become a major retail player in the Indian market. They are already the leading mobile service provider in the country.

This is really a good strategic move by Mr. Mittal. This will help him focus on macro level strategic issues leaving the operational level issues to Directors. Having spread the business horizontally, now he can look into how to make it deep, “to make a positive difference to the lives of people and partner India’s economic development process”.
