Apple Inc. suffer a minor fall in market share of notebooks
Market research firm DisplaySearch has claimed in a report that iPod maker Apple has suffered a minor dent in the market share of notebook computers.
The report said that Apple’s notebook market share fell seven% in the fourth quarter compared to the last quarter. Apple is placed ninth in the overall notebook computer market.
Hewlett Packard continues to dominate the market with around 20% of the market share. Dell had a 15% market share. Acer gained a lot to take the third spot with 13.3% market share.
Other players in the top ten were Toshiba (9.8% share), Lenovo (8.4%), Fujitsu-Siemens (5.3%), Sony (5%), Asus (4.4%) and Apple (4.1%).
John Jacobs, Director of Notebook PC Market Research said in the report: “Brands that were hungry for market share were quick to drop the street price premium, even running ‘free upgrade’ promotions encouraging customers to make the transition. “Additionally, brands with a heavier reliance on the enterprise market faced the additional hurdle of convincing IT managers to embrace wide products and support additional configurations.”
