Honda considering establishing a second bike manufacturing unit in India
Japan’s Honda Motor has a two wheeler manufacturing unit in India HMSI which is currently exploring the possibilities to setup their second manufacturing plant.
This plant would be setup to further raise capacity of motorcycles and scooters to two million units a year by 2010.
The company currently has the capability to produce up to 1.2 million units a year. The motorcycle market in India is growing pretty rapidly and they aim to benefit from this increasing market.
HMSI is also a partner of Hero Honda which is the largest player in the Indian market and also the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world.
The company aims to sell 900,000 units in 2007/08 and have announced their plans to expand their range by launching a series of 100cc motorcycles. This segment of the market is dominated by Hero Honda and is being exited by Bajaj Auto.
