XM Satellite Radio sued for their XM (plus) MP3 by music publishers
National Music Publishers’ Association has filed a lawsuit against the satellite radio company XM Satellite Radio. They are targeting the company’s “XM (plus) MP3″ service claiming that XM is violating copyright laws by giving users the ability to store and replay songs.
National Music Publishers’ Association has said in this lawsuit that XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. is offering this illegal music download service and they are not paying royalties to the music companies for providing such a service.
The XM’s XM (plus) MP3 service allows their subscribers to store songs on portable players and play them back later. The songs are available on the device/service as long as they are customers of the service.
Incidentally, this lawsuit is similar to another lawsuit filed against the satellite radio broadcasters by the Recording Industry Association of America.
