Bajaj Auto considering launching a cheap car to take on Tata Motors
India’s two wheeler giant Bajaj Auto has said that they might consider developing a low cost car to take on Tata Motor’s under development product if it indeed affects the two-wheeler market in the country.
Tata Motors is currently working on a Rs. 1 lakh car project which they aim to sell for a price just above that. They are aiming to bring it to the market sometime next year.
Bajaj said in a statement: “The JP power study says that it (Tata’s Rs. 1 lakh Car) will affect the two-wheeler market. If that happens then we would also manufacture cars for the market.”
Tata’s car is going to be powered with a 600cc engine in the rear and would feature a four seat layout designed to accommodate as many as 5 people.
We already have bikes costing in the range of 70K to 80K rupees. For a bit more, consumers would have an option to buy a car next year.
