NBC Universal to acquire iVillage for $600 million
Media and entertainment industry giants NBC Universal has reported that they are planning to acquire iVillage Inc. iVillage operates a network of sites targeted at the female users of the internet and the deal is worth around a massive USD 600 million.
NBC Universal seems to be interested in this deal as they get a wider audience for their web services considering female web users form a large part of the online community in the country. The company would be paying close to $8.50 per share of iVillage.
This rate is around 6.5 percent premium over the current stock price of the company on the NASDAQ. NBC Universal said in a statement that they are expecting to see this deal close by the second quarter of the year.
A lot of media companies are now looking towards the web for expanding their audiences who are increasingly moving from the television set to the internet. News Corporation has been a prime example who recently acquired MySpace.com, which is one of the largest online communities in the world.
