Sprint Nextel to match Apple iTunes price of 99 cent per song

Sprint Nextel has announced that they are planning to lower down the price of songs on their music download service to 99 cent. With this they would match the prices at other digital stores including market leader Apple iTunes.

The mobile service provider would also become the first of the top three mobile phone service providers to offer this price. They are currently charging $2.49 per song from their customers.

This is a turnaround for the company as they have been claiming in the past that consumers are willing to pay a premium to buy songs on the go using their mobile devices.

Sprint Nextel has sold more than 15 million wireless songs since they launched their services in 2005. This number is however nowhere near to Apple iTunes which sells close to a million songs every day.

Market analysts believe that this new price structure should help the company win more customers. It is also expected that other mobile service providers in the country would lower their prices to match Sprint’s offerings. In the end it is good news for the mobile customer in the US.
