Hewlett-Packard suing Acer for patent infringement
Hewlett-Packard has said in a statement that they are suing Taiwanese personal computer maker Acer on charges of patent infringement.
Goldman Sachs analyst Henry King added that HP is suing with the aim of stopping Acer from selling some of their products in the US market. He said in his report to the investors: “Acer has become a threat that leading PC vendors cannot afford to neglect. We understand why competitors would desire a halt to Acer’s expansion in the U.S. market.”
HP has filed this lawsuit in a Texas federal court and they are asking the courts to stop Acer from selling some products in the United States like some models of their desktop and notebook computers. These include media centers.
HP is saying that these products infringes upon their owned patents. They have specifically listed five patents they gained between 1997 and 2003.
Hewlett Packard is currently the world’s largest personal computer maker while Acer is the fourth largest maker of PCs.
