Vijay Mallya wants to host Formula-1 in Delhi
India might have lost their sole driving in the Formula-1 but there is still hope for a formula-1 race in the country. Kingfisher Airlines Chief Vijay Mallya has said in a statement that he wants to bring the famed race on Delhi roads.
The company is already involved in the game with their sponsorship of the Toyota team. Mallya has plans to present a proposal to the Delhi government in the next two months for hosting a race in the capital city.
He said in a statement: “I bet India must have Formula One and Delhi is the most feasible place to hold it … also because of the upcoming Commonwealth Games for which lot of preparation was already underway.”
He further claimed that the Delhi city Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit was “positively inclined” to host F-1 car race in the city in 2009.
They have two options to host the race in the city. One way could be to develop a brand new dedicated track for the race or they could have it on the wide roads of Lutyen’s Delhi including the majestic Rajpath.
Mallya added: “Both these proposals will be presented to the Delhi government for consideration. We will submit the proposal before the end of the next part of this session.”
