Chrysler cars to feature Satellite television

US based automaker Chrysler has said that that are collaborating with Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. to bring three channels - Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network to their cars.

This service is likely to be made available on Chrysler’s next generation of minivans in addition to models like 2008 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum, Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The company added that the deal is exclusive for the time being and would last till the 2008 model year. Sirius would be able to offer similar services to other automakers after that.

However, this service addition would be expensive at around $470. This includes the first year of service, after which the TV channels will cost $7 per month. Customers would also be required to pay satellite radio fee of $12.95 per month. Frank Klegon, executive vice president of product development for Chrysler spoke on this new development: “I think there’s certainly some potential in the future for expansion of additional channels.”

Sirius spokesman Patrick Reilly added: “We’ve got the three channels we want there. We’re programming it for the demographic of the back seat, which is children, and in the cars that will carry it.”
