Sony BMG to rely on blog submissions to lookout for talent
Music industry giant Sony BMG has said that they would now no longer accept hard copy formats for music samples from budding singers.
The company now plans to invite them to sign up to a record label Web site such as www.columbiademos.co.uk or www.rcademos.co.uk.
Budding musicians would be able to blog their music, photos and videos and the company would hunt through them for someone they like.
SonyBMG’s UK and Ireland Music Entertainment Chairman and Chief Executive Ged Doherty spoke on this new plan: “Blogging is clearly one of the major trends in music, media and entertainment. 100,000 new blogs go online each day at the moment, and the blogosphere is doubling every 230 days so it makes complete sense for the major labels to use the process in a creative way to encourage, discover and communicate with new artists.”
Universal Music is another company which is already inviting unsigned musicians to upload their music and submit information about themselves on their classical and jazz music website.
