American Airlines purchasing 47 Boeing 737-800 jets
US based airline company American Airlines has announced that they have placed an order for 47 Boeing 737-800 jets. They have asked Boeing to start delivering the planes starting 2009.
This could be the beginning of a splurge of new orders from America based airline companies as they recover from the 911 disaster.
This also could result in a situation where Boeing has to boost production rates to meet the growing orders from airline companies around the world.
AA just recently posted first annual profit since 2000 and they plan to start replacing its fleet of more than 300 operational MD-80s.
Interestingly, this announcement comes at a time when Boeing has said that its 737 order book was full until early 2011.
