Talking on the mobile phone while flying banned by US FCC
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has now ended a proceeding that would have allowed travelers to make mobile phone calls while flying on a plane.
This means that for now, air travelers cannot make mobile phone calls while on a plane. The FCC announced that they are not moving forward with the proposal.
They added that Public comments “provide insufficient technical information on whether the use of cellular phones onboard aircraft may cause harmful interference to terrestrial networks”.
The idea was opposed by the travelers themselves who said that they did not want to get disturbed by others making calls on the same flight. Mobile phone companies were also not sure whether in-flight conversations would interfere with their on-ground networks.
Interestingly, European airlines are gearing up to offer in-flight mobile phone service by the end of the year.
