Matsushita to setup a research facility in Vietnam

Japanese electronics giant Matsushita has said in a statement that they are planning to establish a research centre in Vietnam.

They plan to invest as much as 500,000 dollars to create the facility. This facility would develop key software installed in cellular phones and flat-panel televisions.

The company added that they are also planning to begin operation of the new company, the Panasonic R and D Center Vietnam Co., by the end of April in Hanoi.

Matsushita spokesman Akira Kadota spoke on these plans: “Vietnam has the potential to become the second China, where the open socialist economy could create a larger market rather than just serving as a producing centre.”

They already have similar centers located in Singapore and Malaysia.

Kadota added that the company is hoping to move their research and development to the region to gain lower labor costs.
