Reports claim Boeing is looking for an international partner for Indian plant
Indian financial newspaper Mint has claimed in a report that the US based aircraft manufacturer Boeing is looking for a foreign firm to partner it in its proposed maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in India.
Boeing is setting up this unit in Nagpur in western Maharashtra state with state-owned Air-India. They are investing around $185 million on this facility.
Air India had placed an order for 68 Boeing aircraft in 2005 and their deal included the setting up of this plant in India.
Dinesh Keskar, vice-president of sales for commercial airplanes at Boeing was quoted as saying in the report: “The only two companies that have elaborate aircraft maintenance structure in the county are Air-India and Indian, so we are looking for foreign partners.”
Boeing had also recently stated in a research report that they expect the Indian aviation market to have a requirement for 856 new jet aircraft worth more than $72 billion over the next 20 years. This makes it one of the most lucrative upcoming markets in the world.
