Comcast acquiring Fandango

Comcast has announced that they are acquiring online movie-ticket seller Fandango. The world’s biggest cable-television provider added that they would now create a new Web site for viewing films and television shows.

This new Fancast.com site will start in the U.S. summer and web users would be able to view shows on demand via television, the Internet or mobile devices.

Comcast did not reveal the financial aspects of their Fandango acquisition. The deal further proves that the television companies need to get a solid online presence to stay competitive.

Amy Banse, president of Comcast Interactive Media added: “We are building a place where customers can go for information about television whether that television is being offered on TV, VOD or online.”

Comcast has been expanding their online services in the recent times as they have launched a video-sharing Web site, a horror movie Web site and a video game related site.
