Nissan and NEC to develop batteries for ecological vehicles
Automaker Nissan has announced that they are collaborating with Japanese electronics maker NEC to start manufacturing batteries for ecological vehicles.
This would help Nissan catching up with rival automakers who are leading the environment friendly automotive market.
Japan’s top business daily The Nikkei said in a report that the two companies would setup a joint venture together to produce batteries for electric cars and hybrids.
Nissan’s rivals in Japanese market Honda and Toyota both are aggressively pursuing the hybrid car market and have already sold thousands of cars.
Nissan too sells some hybrid models including one based on their Altima but they are currently licensing the technology from Toyota.
Hybrid cars are increasingly becoming popular in the international markets as well. They sell in huge numbers in the US market which is the largest in the world.
