Porsche concentrating on enhancing production as they work on launching Panamera
Sports car maker Porsche is due to launch their brand new car Panamera by 2009. And to prepare for this upcoming launch they have already started working on enhancing their production capacities.
The company has already managed to achieve the maximum production capacity of 96,000 cars annually at its existing plants in Germany.
Porsche has now said that they would update their Leipez plant to increase its capacity by 15,000-20,000 cars.
Mohamed Rahman, MD, Porsche Centre India (PCI) spoke about their plans: “We are currently utilizing the maximum capacity at our two plants and hence Panamera will have to be produced only after we increase the capacity of our Leipez plant where about 35,000-38,000 cars are being manufactured now.”
The company has just launched their second generation Cayenne SUV in India.
Porsche added that they are aiming to triple its sales in India in the next three years. Ashish Chordia, CEO, PCI had this to say: “This year the target is 200 units. For 2008 it is about 240-260 units and taking this forward we plan to sell over 540-550 units in India. We have incorporated Porsche Cars India Pvt Ltd and plan to add three dealers to it from southern India, in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai.”
