Tata Steel is the world’s sixth largest producer of Steel

London-based Iron and Steel Statistics Bureau (ISSB) has released their latest report on the steel producers in the world.

As per the report, Indian company Tata Steel is currently the sixth largest producer of Steel in the world. Tata seems to have gained from their recent acquisition of Anglo-Dutch firm Corus Group. They now have a capacity to output 24 million metric tonnes. Tata itself had claimed that after the merger they would become the world’s fifth largest steel producer.

The list is topped by Arcelor Mittal which is controlled by another Indian born Lakshmi Mittal. Arcelor Mittal is the world’s largest producer of steel with total production of 118 million metric tonnes.

India on its own is now the world’s seventh largest producer of steel with a capacity of 44 million metric tonnes. China continues to head the chart with a capacity of 418.8 million metric tonnes.
