Emirates might place an order for 100 Airbus A350s
Airbus can hope for some good news as the Emirates airline company could order from it as many as 100 Airbus A350s.
The deal if it takes place would be worth around $24 billion at list prices. Emirates President Tim Clark said in a statement that they had to choose between Boeing Co.’s 787 and the Airbus A350.
Airbus is currently the world’s biggest maker of commercial aircraft but faces intense competition from US based Boeing as delays in delivering its new generation of planes is hurting the company badly.
Richard Pinkham, a Singapore-based consultant with the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation spoke on these new developments: “This will definitely put price pressure on Boeing, but it’s nothing they weren’t expecting. They had a nice run where they were the only game in town, but they knew it wouldn’t last.”
Boeing itself is scheduled to start the deliveries of their 787 starting may next year. Their Dreamliner plane is sold out until the “back end” of 2013. Airbus’ own A350 XWB will enter service in 2013.
