Wal-Mart is back at the top on Fortune 500
US based retailing giant Wal-Mart is back at the top of the Fortune 500 list of America’s biggest companies. They have managed to beat oil giant ExxonMobil in order to do so.
Fortune added in its report that the company saw an 11.2 percent increase in its 2006 revenues to 351.1 billion dollars.
With this they managed to overtake ExxonMobil which reported figures of 347.3 billion dollars. The rankings are based on revenues generated by the company. ExxonMobil was more profitable (USD 39.5 billion) dollars compared to Wal-Mart which had profits of USD 11.3 billion.
World’s largest automaker GM continues to hold the second spot despite the huge problems they face at home. The other companies in the top list consisted of Chevron, ConocoPhillips, General Electric, Ford, Citigroup, Bank of America and American International Group.
The combined revenues of all the companies in the list reached an impressive 785 billion dollars.
