General Motors to manufacture new Astra in four European plants
US based automaker GM has said that they would be manufacturing their updated Astra car under the Opel brand in four different markets in Europe.
These four markets are Poland, Germany, Sweden and the UK. This is good news for the Ellesmere Port, Cheshire plant in UK where the production would begin in 2010.
However, the loser in this deal is GM’s plant in Belgium which also used to manufacture the Astra model.
Opel Astra is incidentally GM’s largest selling car in the European market and it sold almost half a million vehicles last year.
GM added in a statement that they now plan to invest around Euro 2 Billion in the Astra project across Europe.
