Microsoft and Lenovo to set up a joint research and development centre in Beijing
US based software giant Microsoft has announced that they are collaborating with PC manufacturer Lenovo to set up a multi-million-dollar joint research and development centre in Beijing.
Lenovo spokesman Chen Ji spoke on this new development: “The investment involves several million dollars but the specific figure will vary according to the need of different projects in the cooperation between the two.”
The two companies would hold 50 percent of the joint research and development centre.
Sources say that this new setup would be based in the Lenovo’s existing research base in Beijing. It would be managed by around 40 engineers from Lenovo and equipment, training and some staff from Microsoft.
The two companies are likely to study together the opportunities in the consumer and mobile markets.
