Nanjing Auto to start exporting MG cars this year
Nanjing Automobile Group Corp. has announced that they would begin exports and U.K. production of MG Cars starting this year.
The company aims to use this acquired brand for global expansion. Yang Junhu, the automaker’s vice general manger said in a statement on their plans: “This brand is already famous in Europe and the U.S., so we can do this anytime we want. We are the only ones that have the power to decide when and where to launch our products.”
They had acquired the MG brand for $97 million in 2005. They have plans to invest an additional $2 billion in MG. the plans are to set up manufacturing units in both US and UK.
Nanjing is also scheduled to begin the production of MG-TF Roadsters in Longbridge, central England in May this year. They had debuted the 1.8-liter MG-TF and two MG7 sedans in March. Two new models are planned for the next two years.
Nanjing Auto happens to be the oldest Chinese automaker. They were established way back in 1947. They manufacture trucks and buses in addition to some models for Fiat.
