Balaji Telefilms collaborating with Star Group to launch regional channels
Balaji Telefilms has announced that they are now collaborating with private broadcaster Star Group. The two companies would work together to launch regional entertainment channels in South Indian languages.
Balaji Telefilms said in a report filed with the Bombay Stock Exchange that they would hold 49 per cent stake in the joint venture while Star Group would hold the remaining 51 per cent.
The headquarter of this joint venture company would be based in Chennai.
The two companies however did not disclose any financial aspects of this deal. Star Group interestingly already operates and own the Tamil language channel Vijay TV. They now plan to launch a Telugu channel by the last quarter of the year.
Long term plans include launching channels in Kannada, Malayalam and other key regional languages. Balaji Telefilms Chairman Jeetendra Kapoor said in a statement: “We believe that combining the expertise and resources of the two companies will enable us to create the leading regional language TV network in the country. I am confident that our investment in this joint venture will generate significant value for our stakeholders.”
