Hyundai to establish a diesel engine plant in India
Maruti has already started manufacturing diesel engines in India and are selling a diesel version of their premium hatchback model Suzuki Swift.
Now, the latest news is that South Korean automaker Hyundai is planning to establish their own diesel engine manufacturing plant in India.
They are scheduled to launch the diesel version of Getz in the coming days. They are also likely to launch a diesel version of Santro in the Indian market.
The company already sells diesel versions of their higher end vehicles like Verna, Sonata and Tucson.
Hyundai India CEO Heung Soo Lheem said in a statement that if the demand for a single model touches 50,000 units they would start manufacturing the engines in the Indian market itself.
Hyundai also launched a new variant of their Verna model named Verna CRDi SX. The company added that about 75% of Vernas sold in the country were diesel variants.
