Shanghai Auto building Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Car codenamed Shanghai

Shanghai Automobile Industry Corporation is the leading automaker in the Chinese auto market which is growing at a rapid pace.

The company has now said that they would produce its first independently developed hydrogen fuel-cell car under the brand name of “Shanghai”.

These plans were revealed by the company chairman Hu Maoyuan. He announced the company’s plans to increase research and development efforts in vehicles running on new energy sources such as mixed power, fuel cells and alternative fuels.

SAIC wants to build an energy-conserving and environmentally-friendly society with their products. The company added that they are aiming to produce its first model mixed power car on a small industrial scale by 2008. They are going to show some prototypes of this car at the Shanghai Auto Show.
