SpiceJet to buy 10 more Boeing 737-800/900 ER

Indian budget airline company SpiceJet has announced that they are going to expand their presence in the Indian market. The company is acquiring an additional 10 Boeing 737-800/900 ER planes.

The company also has plans to go global in 2010. By that time they would have fulfilled the government’s requirements to fly to global destinations.

SpiceJet said that their newly acquired planes will enter the fleet between 2009 and 2011. With this, their total fleet size would increase to 35 planes.

They already have an order in place for 20 planes. These planes are going to join their fleet by October next year.

Several domestic airline companies are pleading with the Indian government to relax the rules to allow them to fly overseas. The market is growing at a phenomenal pace and several international airlines are entering the Indian market.

Air Deccan and Kingfisher Airlines have already said that they might be forced to fly from international destinations into the country if the domestic rules are not relaxed.
