Ed Whitacre, CEO AT&T to retire in June

The CEO of US based telecom giant AT&T Ed Whitacre has revealed that he would be retiring from his position in the coming in June this year.

He has been very successful CEO as he ended up creating the largest U.S. telecommunications service provider after acquiring as many as seven companies in the last decade.

His place would be taken over by the AT&T’s current Chief Operating Officer Randall Stephenson. He would then become the company’s chief executive officer and chairman.

Whitacre announced his decision to retire in June after working in the company for 44 years at the AT&T’s annual shareholders meeting in San Antonio.

He said: “There would never be an easy time for me to leave this job. This job has meant so much to me, but now is the right time to step aside.”
